• The document signer(s) requesting notarization must appear before the Notary Public.
• The signer(s) must present acceptable identification. 
• The Notary Public records the details of the notarization in the journal.
• Depending upon the type of notarization, the Notary Public witnesses the signer's signature, oversees the copying of a document, and/or obtains applicable declarations from the signer.
• The Notary Public completes and signs the preprinted/loose notarial certificate.
• The Notary Public completes the notary certification by placing the notary seal, including the commission expiration date, on the document.
